Northwind welcomed Nikki Jackson to the grooming department in June of 2011. She has been trained by Master Groomer Diane Salts. Nikki's familiarity with the dogs and our facility has helped her achieve the high standards required at Northwind.

Northwind Pet Care Center's grooming department uses only pet friendly dryers and drying methods. All pets are supervised during the drying process. We understand the concern expressed to us about the use of drying cages and want to assure our customers that we do not use drying cages.

Frequently asked questions about grooming
Q: My dog is shedding a lot, should I shave it down? A: Pets that are shedding will still shed after they are clipped short, they will just be shorter hairs. Frequent brush-outs and baths will go a long ways toward cutting down on the amount of coat your pet loses.
Q: How long does it take to groom my pet? A: It depends on the condition, ease of grooming, and difficulty of the trim being done for your pet as to how much time is needed. On average it can be from 3 to 4 hours.
Q: My pet is matted; do you have to clip it short? A: Matted coats are often painful and can be very stressful for your pet. If your pet should become matted, the groomer can give you safe and stress free alternatives to brushing out a matted coat.
Q: How often should my pet be groomed? A: It depends on the breed, length of hair and lifestyle of you and your pet. We recommend having your pet groomed every 4-6 weeks. Pets with high maintenance coats should be brushed out and bathed every 2-3 weeks.
Q: How much will grooming cost? A: The cost of grooming your pet will depend on the difficulty of the trim, the size, breed, and condition of the pet. A trim on a pet in poor condition will cost more than a trim on a pet that receives care on a regular basis. Please call for a quote.
Q: What can I do for fleas? A: While your pet is being groomed, they can receive a Capstar. This is a pill given to your pet. It will kill all of the live fleas on your pet for 24 hours. After your pet is finished, a topical flea product can be applied. We use and recommend Frontline Plus, Advantage, and Advantix.
Q: Do you use tranquilizers on my pet? A: Absolutely not! Tranquilizers can only be administered by a qualified veterinarian.
